Rehearse for Reality

Immersive role play games for relational skill development

Designed by teachers, for teachers - 10 x 45 minute fully-resourced lessons - Easily adaptable for use in form time

How does it work?

Each game uses a different framework to invite students to take the roles of adults in real-life situations. Over the course of 10 lessons, students face tasks and surprise ‘Plot Twists’ in their new roles. They must work together to manage both challenges and triumphs, always considering the consequences of their decisions. They keep track of their choices in individual workbooks, thereby writing their own ‘stories’.

Testimonials

“It was a fun way of teaching adulthood and valuable life skills: how to do taxes and other things like that, but also to learn how to raise (children) and react to things happening in life.”

Year 11 student of ‘Life Story’

“The Plot Twists were a good way to help demonstrate the challenges which you could face in later life. They required skills such as problem solving and the ability to show empathy when you made decisions concerning people in your school.”

Year 7 student of ‘School Story’

“I enjoyed the freedom we got... I thought the cards were cool. (Our) relationship went very well… Working together and not being close-minded made sure that we made the right decisions.”

Year 10 student of ‘Life Story’

“(The Plot Twists) were entertaining and resulted in me and my partner (adapting) to different outcomes.”

Year 13 student of ‘Love Story’

“(We learnt) how to treat each other responsibly and with respect in a relationship.”

Year 12 student of ‘Love Story’

“I enjoyed the fact that we got to make our own decisions instead of them being pre-set for us.”

Our Story

Life Story Education's resources have been specifically designed to address the need for a fresh approach to Relationships Education in schools in the wake of the Everyone’s Invited movement. Recent recommendations from the Department for Education, The Times Education Commission and ‘Healthy Relationships’ experts at Exeter University support our principles of ‘rehearsing for reality’ and putting student engagement at the core of pedagogical design.
